The thought of a snake plant mixed with coffee grounds made me wonder what it would look like.

I decided to head over and see for myself.

When I got there, the scene before me shocked me. Plants were spread on the ground and dirt all around…

…as if some sort of horticultural battle had happened between neighbors.

The only thing out of place was this one little patch in front of my neighbor’s house where…

…there was a green pot sitting with an old-school red plastic cup next to it filled with dark brown dirty liquid…

…which turned out to be coffee grounds! And its turned out this method is a very good alternative way…

…to supply your snake plant with more minerals and nitrogen

Coffee grounds provide phosphorus, potassium, magnesium, and copper to growing plants. Moreover, as grounds biodegrade they release nitrogen, a vital element essential for plant growth. (A cubic yard of coffee grounds contains 10.31 pounds of nitrogen)

Although it makes the soil more acidic, we should avoid directly adding ground coffee to the snake plant…

It is like a double-edged sword. If used correctly, coffee grounds can enhance the growth of your snake plant.

However, if used incorrectly, coffee grounds can slow down plant growth.

So, in this article, we shall learn all about the benefits and hazards of using coffee grounds in a snake plant.

Coffee grounds are an excellent source of nitrogen, one of the macronutrients that the plant needs for its growth.

The grounds of coffee can be mixed with other organic matter for a compost that is rich and productive.

It is beneficial for the soil to acquire microbes and earthworms by using organic matter.

It can also be used to make the soil acidic, which is ideal for our snake plant.

However, you ought to be careful about the amount of compost you use since compost can keep moisture longer…

….while the snake plant prefers dry soil.

These include:

• Compost
• Liquid fertilizer

Here we are going to examine each one in detail. Compost is a natural way to feed our houseplants.

Coffee grounds are like a blessing in disguise if you are among those who prepare their own compost.

By adding coffee grinds to the compost, you can make a nutrient-rich organic compound that is rich in nitrogen.

Put 20% coffee grounds into your kitchen or garden waste and you will create a nutrient-rich compost out of it.

However, do not go overboard with the coffee grounds because it could mess up your compost’s balance.

Once prepared, you can use this mix to fertilize your snake plant once every 6-8 weeks.

Don’t add it frequently as overfertilization could be a problem that can do more harm than good.

The best way to utilize the coffee grounds as liquid fertilizer is to make a liquid fertilizer out of them.

Here are the steps you can follow:

1. Take a small container filled with water and let it simmer.
2. Once the water starts simmering, turn off the gas and let it sit.
3. After 5 minutes, add some coffee ground into it.
4. Let the mixture sit for a few days.
5. Now you can strain the remains and fill a spray bottle with the liquid mix for your houseplants.

If you leave your coffee grounds sitting for a few days, they’ll colonize with beneficial bacteria.

The coffee grounds will be broken down, releasing nutrients from the water.

To fertilize your snake plant every month, you can use this water.

The water is also enriched with bacteria and microorganisms, which will improve the quality of the soil.

Last but not least…

Therefore, it seems logical to conclude that watering plants with coffee might indeed be very beneficial.

Obviously, you wouldn’t want to drink your coffee from the cup in front of you.

Most of us add cream, flavoring, and sugar (or sugar substitute) to our Joe.

Even though real sugar would not harm the plants, artificial sweeteners such as milk…

….or creamer won’t serve your plants any good.

Who knows what effect any of the artificial sweeteners would have on them?

I’m thinking negatively. Watering plants with coffee must be diluted and cannot contain anything else.
