Self-Watering Pot Is A Simple Way To Keep Snake Plants Healthy and Hydrated! (2021)

Snake plants, or mother-in-law’s tongues, are one of the easiest houseplants to care for…

Snake plants can range in height from one to eight feet,

…and are also easy to apply for the novice gardener.

Snake plants are also able to survive without water for weeks.

Happy news for you is that you can also use a self-watering pot for your snake plants!

For two major reasons, the snake plant is an excellent choice for beginners. To begin with, it’s a drougt tolerant succulent. This implies you’ll water it less regularly than other typical houseplants, and it’ll survive if you forget to water it (or two!). Second, the snake plant can tolerate low light. Snake plants prefer medium to bright light, but they can endure lower light levels than most other houseplants. This means you can put it in pretty much any area of your house as long as there’s a window with natural light, whether it’s bright, moderate, or low.

ERIN MARINO, DIRECTOR OF BRAND MARKETING AT THE SILL

Snake plants are special because of the leaves,

…which are smooth, waxy, and shaped like snakes…

Because of its simplicity of nature and its ability to survive with little care,

…it is a perfect plant for indoors, as well…

Hear it from Ming!

I love having snake plants as my houseplant…

I first know it from my gardener friend who’s a plant addict…

He recommended me this plant because he knows how such a mess I am…

I couldn’t really care for my own body, so he bought me the snake plant…

… so I will have a responsibility to take care of.

Well guess what? He’s right! I am now more considerate of my well-being…

Because it turns out that caring for houseplants requires patience…

Remember that the statement comes from me, a black-thumbed gardener…

… who is taking care of a snake plant – the most easy-care plant there is.

A self-watering pot is a pot or container for your indoor plants.

Why do we need it? Because most people doing inconsistency watering to their plants.

The fact is to know how much water to feed your plant at any one time might be challenging.

Overwatering is, in fact, the leading cause of houseplant death.

By allowing plants to water themselves, self-watering pots reduce the uncertainty of watering.

The main pot holds your soil and houseplant, but a bottom reservoir…

..sometimes known as an outside pot or water storage tank, contains any extra moisture.

How Does It Work?

First thing first, you’d have to fill up the water storage tank and that’d be the end of it.

You might check on the water levels once a week..

..and replace them as needed and this is very helpful to make your job simple.

The wick joins the outer and inner pots of the self-watering pot..

..allowing water to easily move up to the root ball and nourish your plant.

Consistency caring for plants is a demanding job.

If you are not using grow light properly, you will not be able to manage how much light they get..

..so their water consumption will fluctuate.

The Overflow Hole Avoid Root Rot

Snake plants commonly the problem is don’t mind growing in water.

They don’t like that much water, as it can cause root rot if the roots are overwatered.

Once root rot happened, it can be fatal to your snake plants in many circumstances.

If they could survive, you will probably have to cut it off a lot of the roots..

..which are rotted and the dead leaves to keep the snake plants safe.

It may appear that the surplus water..

..from a self-watering pot is a perfect environment for root rot in the snake plants.

The self-watering pot’s overflow hole, on the other hand..

..guarantees that your plant never gets more water than it requires.

The overflow hole as the name implies drains any excess water that may have accumulated.

Water Usage Efficiency

We should very careful of how much water that we used for our snake plants and our daily life.

We don’t want to squander any of the water.

In this situation, we might consider investing in a self-watering pot for our beloved snake plants.

Moisture-wicking systems are available on some self-watering pot, make them even more efficient.

When there is water in the chamber..

..the moisture-wicking mechanism absorbs it and distributes it to your plant in the form of water.

Absolutely, you could potentially use the same water indefinitely, but this isn’t practical.

A self-watering pot also delivers water more precisely than a spray bottle or a watering container.

You have little control over where the water goes with either of those methods, which is wasteful.

The water in the pot always finds its way to the intended destination, the plant’s roots without being diverted.

The Nutrients Need Is Completely Full

You may use your self-watering pot to transport plant food and nutrients directly to the roots..

..in addition to providing water.

Slow-release nutrients can supply your plant with the nutrition it needs for three to four weeks at a time.

Prevents Pests Disease

Although you’re going for the plant’s roots..

..water can get on the leaves if you water from top to down.

If the leaves are oversaturated on a regular basis, they are more likely to develop fungal illnesses.

Using a self-watering pot helps to keep the leaves dry.

You may need to shower the leaves to clean them every now and then,

…depends on the snake plant’s condition.

But you already help the plant be healthy and happy!

Knowing all the benefits that it can offer you probably are looking for a self-watering pot for your snake plants.

So…

How To Make The Snake Plants Happy With Self-Watering Pot?

You can give two glasses of water one week would be sufficient..

..or insufficient the next and this is the crux of the matter with houseplants.

They seek the one thing that most of their caretakers cannot give them consistency.

We become busy and forget to water at least once per week..

..then adjust by giving the plant extra water the following week.

What you get is the soil is still very wet at the next week and it makes overwatered..

..so just hold watering for another week waits for the soil until dry.

By allowing the snake plant to water from the pot as needed..

..a self-watering pot avoids instability in watering.

Sum Up

As the result, houseplants really need a self-watering pot.

To manage the rate of transpiration..

..the great majority of tropical plant species prefer regular amounts of moisture in the soil..

..and access to a water reservoir, they want to able to manage the rate of transpiration.

Conclusion

Event plants with shallow root systems..

..such as snake plants can thrive in a self-watering pot if they are given enough light.

Provides great root area while also drawing water into the lower soil layer..

..simulating natural environmental conditions!
