How to care for Snake Plant Varieties

Snake plants thrive in indirect sunlight, and they don’t need a lot of water, especially during the winter.Every season, one lot of general fertilizer should be enough for the plants to grow and look healthy.

How to Grow the Snake Plant

Plants can be grown from cuttings easily. It is easiest to propagate with rhizomes when the roots are divided. Afterwards, the rhizomes are planted in the garden for easy growth. Don’t overwater your plant once it grows, as it will rot if you do. They actually do very well in dry air and are one of the few house plants that do not require increased humidity. Make sure the plant is not exposed to extreme temperatures.

Watering

Snake plants are most at risk from rot, so do not let them get too much water. You should let the plant dry completely before watering it. It will probably survive if you forget to water it for 8 weeks.

Light Requirements

Low light is okay for the plant, but they prefer medium light. You will notice that the leaves will become darker when you are in a low-light area. Avoid exposing your snake plant to direct sunlight so they don’t get sunburned.

Pests

There is a possibility that you will have mealybugs on the Snake Plant. Indoors, mealybugs are common, and they spread fairly quickly. You should spray them with 70% alcohol spray to remove them; however, you need to act fast to prevent them from spreading. Continue spraying every day until you are sure that the bugs are gone. While spraying soap and water works for some plants, the alcohol spray is better for the Snake Plant since it is hardy.

Propagation

To propagate your snake plant, use a cactus-type potting mix as your rooting medium, and propagate using leaves. Another method involves spreading underground, which is usually successful, by rhizomes.Once the rhizomes have sprouted, they will start growing. Dividing your plant is another method of propagation. This works well with large plants.

Origin of the Snake Plant

Originally from Tropical West Africa, the snake plant thrived in Nigeria and Congo. Around the growing point, the leaves are often arranged in a rosette and foliage varies.Harder leaves originate from arid climates, whereas soft leaves are found in tropical climates. To survive in the desert, hard leaf species develop thicker leaves to store water and reduce moisture loss. Greenish-white flowers can be found on some species in summer.Bandages are made from the leaves of sansevieria species in Africa.

Uses of Snake Plant Varieties

Snake plants are kept in pots and decorated with dragons and phoenixes in China, and they grow slowly and last for many years in this condition. In Hollywood and abroad, snake plants have been used as props on numerous film sets. Plants with upward-growing leaves are also suitable for Feng Shui.
