Are you looking for what is the best plant to give? Giving flowers is one of the sweet things you can do for someone. But looking at the fact that you are here means that you also think that giving them a whole plant is even sweeter! That was a good idea. But hold on, there are several things you should consider before giving any plant as gifts. What if the person has a brown thumb? Or what is the best plant to give for an experienced gardener? Before you start to have a headache, we are here to assist you in picking plants that will appeal to both beginners and pro gardeners.

The Calathea ‘Medallion’ — This plant was recommended by several of our experts as an ideal plant. Compared to a basic plant (we’ll show you some ideas for those below), it is slightly more challenging but not too challenging. The Sill’s branding director, Erin Marino, said they are visually appealing, and a nice change from a beautiful bunch of flowers. Marino says they’re as beautiful and ornate as these plants, so they’re precious to give away as well. The plants thrive in moderate light, so even if the recipient’s lighting is not ideal, you can give them to them anyway.

Rebecca Bullene, founder of Greenery NYC, says, “They are definitely gorgeous and add some color to any room.”. Several of them [like the Memorial variety] have purple undersides. Calatheas, also known as prayer plants, open and close their leaves throughout the day, as if holding hands in prayer. Watering is required only once or two times per week (according to light conditions), so they don’t require a lot of attention. The ASPCA considers calatheas pet-safe, which makes them a good option for friends with cats or dogs, according to Marino.

Best Gifts For Beginners

Snake Plant (Sansevieria Zeylanica) — Experts recommend the snake plant, commonly called the sansevieria, as a gift if the recipient has no experience with plants. Yes, this plant is the answer to what is the best plant to give to beginners. As it is basically indestructible, Bullene says it will build someone’s confidence and make sure they are set up for success.

The sansevieria family of plants releases oxygen at all times, as opposed to most plants which release oxygen only when they’re photosynthesizing. Consequently, they’re perfect for enhancing your recipient’s indoor air quality and are very easy to maintain. “We tend to neglect them quite a bit,” says Tara Heibel, owner and founder of Sprout Home. “You’re not making the recipient responsible for something they need to constantly monitor.”

Best Plant To Give For Plant Enthusiasts

Pilea Peperomioides — For plant hobbyists who have already mastered the ZZ and sansevieria, our experts recommend the flat-leaved Pilea peperomioides, commonly known as the Chinese money plant or coin plant. “One of the things I love about this guy is the fact that it pops out little babies in the soil, so that’s pretty neat. “It’s endless,” Marino says, who appreciates how the recipient can give the propagations as gifts in the future. “If you give someone one plant over time, you’re really giving them fifty-somethings,” says Bullene, who thinks the shape of this plant is especially beautiful.

Thai Constellation Variegated Monstera — Monstera leaves have become widely known, but the patterned, variegated varieties are much more rare, delighting even seasoned plant owners. “It is not widely grown commercially, so it is difficult to find,” says Marino. “So when you give someone that, they know that you put a lot of effort into finding it.” Bullene explains that it is the best plant to give for experts or pro gardeners since genetic modifications create the unique pattern but also make the plant vulnerable.” Although the procedure to propagate them and then to maintain them long-term takes time and patience, she says, they would make remarkable gifts for those who know plants.
