A lawn mower is a machine that is used to cut grass. It is usually powered by an engine and has a blade that is used to cut grass. Lawnmowers come in many different shapes and sizes, ranging from small hand-held models up to large commercial-sized machines with attachments for cutting trees or shrubs. A typical lawn mower has its own battery to start the engine and run it until it is turned off. The batteries are generally replaced every two years as they deteriorate over time.

Before the middle of the 20th century, lawn mowers were mostly reel mowers with a cylindrical blade that got all its power from the person pushing it.

Lawrence Schumacher, author from howstuffworks.com

How does a lawn mower work?

The blades on a lawn mower cut grass by dragging across the surface of the ground. To do this, the blade must be moving at some speed relative to the ground.

If the blade is too fast, then the grass will get caught under the blade and damaged if not completely destroyed.

If the blade is slower than the speed of the grass, then there will not be enough force to cut through the grass.

This is why you need a motor to turn the blade, which makes the blade move much faster than would otherwise be possible without an external power source.

Some lawn mowers have their engines geared down to slow them down to keep the grass from being harmed.

Why Is My Toro Lawn Mower Not Starting

So, why is my toro lawn mower not starting? If you’re having trouble starting your Toro lawn mower, there may be a simple solution. When starting a business, it is easy to overlook the three most common reasons for failure that the Toro Company points out. Don’t ignore the obvious when troubleshooting — check the gasoline level first because even bullish Toro mowers cannot start without gas. Here are the reasons behind it and how to fix it:

Expired Fuel

Even though your Toro mower’s tank is full of gas, the first cut of the season may be ineffective since gasoline degrades over time. If the gas in the tank has been sitting for more than 30 days, it has gone stale and may not ignite to start your mower. If you neglected to empty the gas tank before storing your mower for the winter, drain the stale gas and replace it with new gasoline before attempting to start it. Transfer the stale gas to an appropriate container and dispose of it properly at a recycling facility. Heavy-duty plastic containers with screw-on tops are often acceptable receptacles, but check with your local recycling center for specific restrictions in your region.

Plugs for Spark Plugs

Before your Toro mower engine can start, the fuel must be ignited. This is accomplished by the spark plug, which should be changed once a year to maintain your mower in good working order. If you have a big lawn to mow, you may need to change the spark plug more often. After 200 hours of mower usage, the Toro Company advises replacing the spark plug. A gapping tool is used to regulate the ignition gap so that the spark plug functions correctly. Consult the Owner’s Manual to determine the proper spacing for your model mower, since each model has different needs.

Clogged Air Filter

A clogged air filter stops air from reaching the mower’s carburetor, causing a Toro mower to fail to start. Air filters collect dust and grime to keep the engine clean, but they must be replaced once a year or more often if they get blocked. You may remove the air filter cover by turning it clockwise. After removing the old air filter, use a dry towel to wipe the flange and filter cover before inserting the new filter. Replace the filter cover by aligning the tabs with the flange slots and twisting it counterclockwise to secure it.

Battery Issues

Some Toro lawn mowers have electric starts that run on battery power. The battery in these electric-start models must be charged at least twice a year, at the start and conclusion of each mowing season. If you have a big yard with a lot of grass to mow, you may need to charge the battery more often. Check the fuse if the battery is completely charged but the mower still won’t start. Even a fully charged battery won’t be able to start your mower if the fuse is blown.
