How to disconnect self propelled lawn mower? A self-propelled lawn mower is a great choice for homeowners that have a big yard to maintain. You don’t have to worry about pushing the mower around and wasting time while mowing your lawn. In this blog, we also have an article about ryobi 40 volt brushless self propelled mower that you might want to read about it.

Self-propelled lawnmowers work on a drive system (making them vehicle-like) that requires the operator to squeeze a bar (called a “bail”) on the handle to engage the mower. After that, the mower moves forward on its own (you don’t have to push it).”

How To Disconnect Self Propelled Lawn Mower

  1. To deactivate the engine, disconnect the spark plug wire from the mower’s spark plug. This eliminates the possibility of an inadvertent ignition when working near the mower blade.
  2. With a screwdriver, remove the screws that secure the transmission cover to the top of the mower. Set the lid to one side. This reveals the primary transmission housing and pulley.
  3. The setscrew should be located between the transmission and the pulley. As you pull up on the drive belt linked to the pulley, turn it counterclockwise. When the belt can be slipped off the pulley, stop rotating the setscrew.
  4. Invert the mower so that the air cleaner is facing upward. This keeps gasoline out of the air cleaner.
  5. Pull the belt through the mower deck’s access hole and then off the pulley positioned between the mower deck’s bottom and the mower blade. If the belt will not pass through the blade, remove the nut that secures the blade to the main shaft, remove the blade and belt, and then replace the blade.
  6. Reassemble the mower on its wheels and reinstall the gearbox cover using the original screws and a screwdriver.

Consideration before buying self propelled lawn mower

Buying a self propelled lawn mower can be a great investment, but you need to make sure that you are buying the right one for your needs. Before buying a self propelled lawn mower, I will tell you some consideration before buying self propelled lawn mower. Here are the breakdown list of it:

  1. Size – Do check on how big the area is that you wish to cover using this mower. If you have large gardens then choose a bigger model for more coverage. On the other hand if you only want to use it at small area then choose smaller size.
  2. Fuel source – You should consider fuel source when purchasing a mower. Gasoline engines are cheap and easy to operate but they require regular maintenance. They also produce more noise than electric models. Electric motors are expensive compared to gasoline ones. However, they don’t require much maintenance and do not consume much fuel. Battery-powered models are best for those who do not like the idea of mixing gas and oil in their yard. Electric mowers can last up to 40 years while gas models last anywhere between five to seven years.
  3. Mower height – Do check on the height of the mower deck. A higher deck means that more grass will be lifted away from the ground. This makes it easier to trim and clean the blades. On the contrary, lower decks usually mean less grass removal. Choose accordingly.
  4. Engine type – The most important part of a self propelled lawn mover is its engine. There are three types: two-stroke cycle, four stroke cycle and electric. Two-stroke cycle engines provide better performance as well as efficiency because they convert all the energy generated during combustion to power movement. Four-stroke engines offer a wider range of motion, though they may take longer to start. Finally, electric motor provides zero emissions and is the least noisy. All these factors will determine the kind of engine you get with your purchase.
  5. Deck size – This refers to the width of the blade. Most modern units feature a wide cutting deck, which allows them to be pushed through thick grass without getting stuck. Make sure that you have enough space to maneuver the lawn mower easily.
  6. Blade length – Blades come in varying lengths depending on whether the mower is designed for edging or just general mowing. Longer blades allow the unit to move through tall grass without having to stop frequently; shorter blades allow for quicker trimming.
