Underwatering cause snake plant curling

The leaves of your snake plant may curl due to this condition. A snake plant that has been underwatered will not be able to perform its normal  physiological functions. The roots of your snake plant will not be able to take up essential nutrients if you do not provide them with water. Water contains nutrients in their soluble form. 

Moreover, while the leaves do not have water, the essential oils cannot be transferred to them. As a result, snake plant leaves become curled and wrinkled in severe cases. Another symptom of underwatering is brown tips on snake plants. 

Overwatering

You may not be able to save your snake plant if you overwater it. Yellowing leaves and curled leaves are other signs of an overwatered snake plant. Your snake plant will become infected with root rot if you overwater it. When the roots become dysfunctional, this will eventually lead to the plant’s failure. Rotting roots are caused by this fungal disease. The result is that it is not able to absorb water and nutrients for its normal physiological  functions. Therefore, your snake plant leaves may curl as a result.

Lack of Light

Snake plants can thrive indoors, provided they have enough light. It may show symptoms like curling leaves if it doesn’t get the minimum amount of light. Snake plants require light for the photosynthesis process to continue. We  know that this is a necessary step in the preparation of food for plants. Leaves of snake plants cannot thrive without food and curl as a result.

Improper Fertilizer

Plants of the snake family do not need frequent fertilizer applications. The nutrient requirements can be met by applying fertilizer once every 1-2 months during the summer or growth period. An excessive amount of fertilizer damages the root system and leaves of the snake plant curling. Symptoms such as burnt leaves or curling leaves can occur when snake plants cannot handle the additional nutrients.

Temperature

Snake plant leaves can curl when the temperature is too high. During high temperatures, transpiration is accelerated. Consequently, more water is lost by the plant than usual. Therefore, snake leaves curl when water is lost. 

Rootbound or Root Rot

Snake plants need to be potted according to their age. A pot that is the same size as when the plant was young will lead to the root system expanding and becoming root bound.  A circling web is created by the roots within the container.

Your snake plant leaves may curl if your snake plant is rootbound. The root system cannot have enough space, which restricts its ability to function and absorb nutrients. 

Increasing the water level in the container or leaving the water stagnant will accelerate the fungus  infection.

Soggy and wet conditions inhibit the roots’ ability to use oxygen and create suffocating conditions.   

The root system is damaged and becomes dysfunctional when there is root rot. Your snake plant can die if you do this.
