It’s possible that you have noticed some abnormalities if you have been using your riding mower for a long time. Imagine yourself attempting to mow your lawn when your riding mower becomes stuck at one place or the wheels simply continue to turn in another.

Eventually, you might be able to make it progress, or you might not. This is the result of a transmission issue, so don’t freak out.

When your lawnmower’s wheels won’t simply advance, you have a gearbox issue. And this isn’t because the grass is muddy or your yard is moist. Simply put, the transmission has locked up. The gearbox, as I have explained, is what causes the wheels to turn in order to drive forward.

You might need to swap out the mower transmission with a replacement that has been approved by the manufacturer if the wheels won’t advance. That’s a lot, right? But don’t worry, we have some incredibly easy DIY methods for fixing your gearbox issue.

How to Fix a Transmission Problem, follow these 6 steps:


Cut the spark plug cable

Simply separating the spark plug wire from the spark plug is the first step in rebuilding your transmission. Then Take away the drive cover. Once the spark plug must be disconnected, open the gasoline tank cap and place a plastic bag over the tank opening.

Put the gasoline tank cap back on. This prevents gasoline from escaping when you tilt the riding mower. The mower should then be placed back in its original position after the attached mower handle has been removed from the work table.

After doing so, release the height-adjustment lever and unscrew the drive cover’s top mounting screws.


Remove the transmission pulley’s ground drive belt

You can remove the belt keeper that is fastened to the transmission. Overlap the belt with the pulley on the transmission. As you secure one end of the bungee cord to the drive belt, make sure to maintain strain on the belt. The rear chute door lip should receive the other end of the bungee rope.


Disengage the drive control cable

From the anchor post, remove the drive cable. Pull the drive wire away from the transmission lever by depressing the release tabs. After that, take away the front wheels. Pull off the right wheel by removing the wheel mounting nut. the cover with dust. the left front wheel in the same manner.


Take away the transmission

Lock pliers to the left side of the transmission axle to keep the axle in place while removing the right pinion gear. After that, unfasten the screw holding the pinion gear to the axle. Remove the transmission axle pin and the right pinion gear.

Continue using the left gear. Remove the axle clip and the pliers that are fastened to it. Pull the support bearings away from the transmission axle, release the tension spring pin, and raise the transmission. Permit the wheel axle assembly to move the transmission out.

 Slide the new transmission into the wheel axle assembly. Reinstall all of the components. Next, put back on the front wheels. After removing the front wheels, reinstall them in the same order.

Replace the drive cover and belt

Put the drive cable back in. Your mower’s drive cable needs to be reinstalled. Last, place the belt on the transmission pulley after replacing the drive cable. Reinstall the drive cover’s top mounting screws, the height adjustable lever, and the belt keeper after that.

Reinstall the drive cover’s bottom mounting screws while the mower is tilted back. Return the mower handle to the ground after releasing it from the worktable. Replace the fuel tank cap after removing the plastic bag that was covering the fuel. Reconnect the spark plug wire and reinstall the belt.
